Bekasi train crash: President instructs best treatment for victims
The president gave the directive directly to his officials during a visit to the injured at Bekasi Regional Public Hospital on Tuesday morning.
“He instructed that all hospitalized victims receive the best possible care,” Minister Hadi told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday.
President Prabowo also received firsthand reports and briefings from the hospital’s medical team regarding the victims’ treatment and recovery.
During his visit, the president was accompanied by Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, and the President Director of state rail operator KAI, Bobby Rasyidin.
“I offer my condolences on behalf of myself and the government. We will immediately launch an investigation into what exactly happened,” President Prabowo told reporters after visiting the injured victims.
The fatal train accident occurred on Monday evening when a long-distance train slammed into a Commuter Line train at Bekasi Timur Station.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin earlier reported that as of Tuesday at 08:45 a.m., the death toll had risen to 14, while 84 injured victims were receiving medical treatment.
The deceased have been transported to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for identification, while the 84 injured victims are receiving medical care at various health facilities, including Bekasi Regional Public Hospital, Primaya Hospital, and Bakti Kartini Hospital.
KAI confirmed that all personal belongings recovered from the crash site have been secured and are currently held at its Lost and Found facility.
