Bekasi Train Accident Death Toll Rises to Seven, Three Still Trapped
The death toll from the train accident involving a long-distance train and a commuter rail (KRL) at Bekasi Timur Station has reached seven people. In addition, there are 81 injured victims who are still receiving treatment at hospitals.
“The number of casualties from the train accident last night who have passed away is seven people,” said KAI Director Bobby Rasyidin to reporters at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi City, West Java, on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
“And the injured and treated number 81 people,” he added, as reported by detikNews.
Bobby revealed that three victims still trapped in the carriage have not yet been evacuated. He stated that the evacuation is being carried out with maximum care.
“And those still trapped are around three people, trapped inside the train,” he said.
“This evacuation, to be honest, has taken quite a long time, about eight hours, and we are doing it very carefully,” he continued.
Previously, KAI commented on the accident. KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo said the KRL that was hit had stopped after being blocked by a taxi.
“So the KRL had a taxi blocking it at the JPL (Direct Crossing Line) crossing near Bulak Kapal. That’s what made the KRL stop,” said KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo, when contacted on Monday (27/4).
After that, the KRL’s movement stopped. Franoto said the KRL was then hit by the Argo Bromo train. “The KRL stopped, and behind it was the Argo Bromo train,” he added.
