Bekasi Toddler Killer Apologises: 'I Wanted Him to Be Calm and End His Suffering'
Bekasi, KOMPAS.com – An 18-year-old suspect identified as SG killed his two-year-old nephew MAJ at a rental property in Jatirangga Village, Jatisampurna District, Bekasi City, West Java, and has apologised. The suspect expressed regret following police questioning. ‘Yes, the suspect is remorseful. During initial questioning, he also apologised, saying, “I just wanted to make the toddler calm and end his suffering,”’ said Commissioner Andi Muhammad Iqbal, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Bekasi City Police, during an interview at the police station on Friday, 29 May 2026. ‘Based on his statements, although inconsistent, the suspect has admitted his actions,’ Iqbal said. Police revealed that before the attack, SG claimed to be angry after being disturbed while playing games. He also stated he heard voices and wanted to meet God soon. ‘In addition to being angry, the suspect also reported hearing voices and wanting to meet God quickly,’ Iqbal said. In a fit of emotion, SG took a knife from the kitchen and attacked the victim. ‘The suspect then stabbed the victim multiple times,’ he said. Iqbal explained that a forensic report from Kramat Jati Police Hospital revealed the victim had multiple stab wounds across his body. ‘A total of approximately 32 stab wounds were inflicted on the victim’s body,’ Iqbal said. Additionally, investigators found that SG had repeatedly expressed a desire to end his life. ‘According to the suspect’s brother, he had expressed suicidal intentions approximately 10 times,’ Iqbal said.
