Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has urged the public and all related parties to await the results of the National Transport Safety Committee (KNKT) investigation into the train accident in East Bekasi some time ago. Dudy stated that the KNKT’s investigation process is still ongoing in a comprehensive and objective manner, gathering facts and information from the field, and considering various aspects through comprehensive analysis. “Therefore, let us all respect that process and await the investigation results to ascertain the exact cause of the accident,” Dudy said in his official statement on Monday (4/5/2026). The simulation was conducted to understand possible technical causes, particularly related to the function and response of the signalling system during the incident. To date, the KNKT continues to carry out other investigation processes. The Ministry of Transport has also conducted a spot check at the Green SM Bekasi depot and found several findings to be further examined. Director of Road Transport Facilities and Safety Yusuf Nugroho stated that the spot check is part of the oversight of the implementation of the Public Transport Company Safety Management System (SMK PAU) mandated in Minister of Transport Regulation (PM) No. 85 of 2018 on the Safety Management System for Public Transport Companies. “In the event of an incident, the Directorate General of Land Transport may conduct audits and inspections through observation and monitoring. So what we are doing is in accordance with Article 16 of PM 85 of 2018, that in certain conditions such as prominent or recurring traffic accidents, the Directorate General of Land Transport may conduct audits and inspections to ensure safety aspects,” Yusuf said some time ago.
