BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — The Bekasi Station Pedestrian Overpass (JPO) is scheduled to open by end June 2026, eliminating the need for pedestrians to cross the road. Bekasi City Public Works and Water Resources Department (DBMSDA) Head Idi Sutanto said the JPO construction aims to alleviate traffic congestion on Ir H Juanda Street in South Bekasi, caused by high pedestrian activity heading to Bekasi Station. ‘Yes, our target is for it to be operational by end June and accessible to the public,’ Idi said during a meeting at Bekasi City Hall Plaza on Monday (25 May 2026). ‘We requested investors to build the JPO, with compensation in the form of advertising space,’ he added. He explained that all previously problematic licensing processes have been completed, including approvals from PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and the Ministry of Transportation. Idi stated the JPO is designed to connect directly to the station area, preventing pedestrians from crossing the roadway. ‘With the JPO in place, we want direct access to the station from above,’ he said. He hopes the JPO will reduce the habit of KRL passengers crossing the highway directly, leading to more orderly traffic flow. ‘In future, there will be no more road-level crossings; all pedestrian crossings will be via the overpass,’ he added. After the JPO is completed, Bekasi City Government plans to reconfigure the road median with plants and flower pots to encourage greater compliance with pedestrian facilities. KOMPAS.com’s on-site observation showed the black structural framework of the JPO has been installed, stretching south of Bekasi Station. Staircase frameworks and barriers on both sides are already in place. Additionally, the JPO staircase area has been reinforced with concrete and is ready for pouring. Along Ir H Juanda Street, several project information banners for the JPO construction remain in place.
