Bekasi rotates 174 principals

BEKASI: As many as 174 of 460 headmasters of elementary schools in the Bekasi municipality have been rotated to other schools as part of what is known as a "tour of duty."

Bekasi Mayor Akhmad Zulfaih said on Friday that the tour of duty aimed at refreshing the school masters.

"Working at the same school for five years can be too much for schoolmasters. Therefore, they need refreshing," Akhmad told journalists, adding that the tour of duty had been planned for a long time.

He admitted that there were schoolmasters who were happy with their new schools, but just many who were not so happy with their new places.

He also said that there were some 856 teachers of elementary schools who have not yet become civil servants in the municipality.

"They want to become civil servants, but we cannot fulfill their demands because the recruitment of civil servants is responsibility of the central government," he said. --Antara
