Bekasi Residents to Get Extension Station, What Is Its Function?

Residents of Bekasi will soon have a new facility connected to Bekasi Station. The facility, called Bekasi Extension Station, is being built as part of a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area development in partnership with Summarecon Bekasi. Unlike a new station, Bekasi Extension Station is an expansion of the existing Bekasi Station area. The project includes the construction of a station extension and a connecting skybridge to facilitate passenger access and reduce congestion at the existing station. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated that transit-based urban development, such as the one in Bekasi, is expected to become a model for other cities in Indonesia. The TOD concept being developed not only provides access to trains but also integrates residential areas, community activity centres, and public transport within a single area. The government believes this integration can reduce travel time while improving the quality of life for urban communities. President Director of Summarecon, Adrianto P. Adhi, said the construction of Bekasi Extension Station is targeted for completion within 18 months. The company has prepared an investment of approximately Rp 80 billion to build the extension station and the skybridge connecting it to Bekasi Station. The land area is around 7,000 square metres with a building area of about 6,000 square metres. The presence of the extension station will not replace the function of the existing Bekasi Station. Passengers will continue to board and alight from trains via the existing platforms, while the extension station will serve as a new entrance connected by the skybridge. The area is also being prepared for integration with public transport, including a planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, providing the public with more transport options.
