Bekasi Regent Corruption Trial: Ade Kunang Allegedly Borrowed IDR 8 Billion from Businessman to Pay Debts
The corruption trial of Bekasi Regent Ade Kunang and his father HM Kunang resumed at the Bandung Corruption Court on Monday (21/6/2026). During the session, which featured seven witnesses, it was revealed that Ade Kunang borrowed IDR 8 billion from businessman Sarjan, who is a defendant in the case and has been sentenced to three years and three months in prison.
When questioned by the public prosecutor, Sarjan admitted that Ade Kunang borrowed IDR 8 billion from him through an intermediary named Sugiarto. He then requested a meeting with the regent at KM 88 towards Bandung. “Sugiarto conveyed that Mr Ade wanted to borrow money to pay political debts. If I’m not mistaken, it was IDR 8 billion,” he stated.
After the meeting, Sarjan said Ade Kunang confirmed he wanted to borrow IDR 8 billion, or even IDR 10 billion. Sarjan said he would try to arrange it. “I asked, ‘Sir, is it true you want to borrow money through Sugiarto?’ Mr Ade confirmed it,” he said. He then provided the money in stages through several people, including Sugiarto and Ricky Yuda. The funds came from the proceeds of projects awarded by the Bekasi Regency Government.
Meanwhile, defence lawyer I Wayan Suka Wirawan argued that the witness testimonies confirmed the matter was a loan, not a bribe or gratuity, and was unrelated to the projects won by Sarjan as a businessman. “Regarding the witnesses, all of them confirmed that the money in question was a loan,” he said.
