Bekasi Regency Requires Immigration Office to Bring Public Services Closer
The Bekasi Regency area in West Java requires an immigration office as an effort to bring public services closer, ensuring that local residents do not have to travel far to Bekasi City or Karawang Regency to access immigration document services.
“So far, people requiring immigration services still have to go to the Immigration Office or the Public Service Mall (MPP) located in Bekasi City and Karawang Regency,” said the Chairman of the Bekasi Regency DPRD, Ade Sukron Hanas, in Cikarang on Monday.
He assessed that Bekasi Regency is highly worthy of having its own immigration office, the benefits of which could be directly felt by both the community and the Indonesian Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services. As the epicentre of an industrial zone with the largest population of companies in Southeast Asia, the region has many residents with migrant status, originating not only from other regions but also from abroad.
Most of these expatriates are foreign workers operating within companies in the Bekasi Regency area. They periodically access immigration services according to their specific job requirements. “This includes our citizens who intend to travel abroad. They need visas, passports, or other immigration documents for various needs, such as tourism, religious pilgrimages, medical treatment, or business matters,” he added.
For the relevant ministry, he noted, the presence of an immigration office is believed to be able to maximise supervisory functions, particularly regarding foreign nationals working in the Bekasi Regency industrial zones. “We also plan to send a formal letter to encourage the provision of public services for passport applications, renewals, and other immigration services.”
The Acting Head of the Bekasi Regency Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP), Juanda Rahmat, stated that his office has already sent a letter regarding the request for shared services through the Public Service Mall (MPP). “We have submitted a request to the Bekasi City Immigration Office. At the very least, if services could be located within the MPP to facilitate passport applications or renewals for the community, it would be much closer. Ideally, an office could be built here in Bekasi Regency,” he said.
The Head of the Bekasi Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office, Anggi Wicaksuono, welcomed the request for the construction of an office in the Bekasi Regency area to bring public services closer, including serving the community through the MPP. “We very much want to provide services closer to the community. I have also informed my leadership, and we will follow up with the local government in the near future,” he said.
