The Bekasi Regency Government in West Java has confirmed that the building and supporting facilities for the People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat) in the area are ready to operate for teaching and learning activities starting from the new academic year 2026/2027 at the end of this month. Head of the Bekasi Regency Social Service, Alamsyah, stated in Cikarang on Wednesday that learning activities are scheduled to commence at the end of June, with student numbers adhering to the established quota. He explained that the Bekasi Regency People’s School, located in Sukamahi Village, Cikarang Pusat District, will enroll new prospective students and also accommodate students from the region who were previously placed in the Pilot People’s School in Bekasi City. In its first year of operation, the school will open nine classrooms or study groups, comprising three groups for each education level from primary school through to junior high and senior high school. Each classroom will hold 30 students. Alamsyah noted the total quota is 270 students, with 90 students per level, while an additional 44 students from Bekasi Regency currently studying in Bekasi City will be transferred to this facility. He stated that the main target for the People’s School programme is children from families categorised as poor and extremely poor, based on Ministry of Social Affairs data verified by the Central Statistics Agency alongside family hope programme assistants. A ground check revealed a shortfall of 65 prospective students at the primary school level. Two weeks ago, the Presidential Staff Office inspected the construction progress directly. Alamsyah voiced hope that everything proceeds according to the target so that when the new academic term begins, all infrastructure and facilities can be utilised optimally. He expressed hope that the People’s School programme, as a manifestation of the government’s commitment to expanding educational access for underprivileged families, will prevent children from dropping out of school due to economic limitations while simultaneously producing a superior future generation. He described it as an excellent opportunity for impoverished residents of Bekasi Regency, allowing children constrained by costs to attend school properly and become high-quality, competitive successors. The Bekasi Regency People’s School is part of the second phase of the West Java People’s School development package. Construction of this educational facility began on December 2, 2025, with a work contract lasting until July 29, 2026. The development utilises a regional asset on 5.4 hectares of land that will be granted to the Ministry of Social Affairs as the operator of the People’s School programme.
