The implementation of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) at the People’s School (SR) in Bekasi Regency for the 2026/2027 academic year has been officially postponed. The activity, originally scheduled for the end of July, was delayed to ensure all supporting facilities and infrastructure are optimally ready for the new students.

Head of the Bekasi Regency Social Service, Alamsyah, explained that the postponement is a procedural step to guarantee student comfort and safety. According to the contract documents, the physical construction of the school building is still in its final phase.

Speaking on Tuesday (21/7), Alamsyah stated that the main obstacle to holding the MPLS was the building’s finishing status. He stressed that the school does not wish to force teaching and learning activities if basic facilities are not 100 percent complete.

“The new school year MPLS has not been held because the building and facilities are still in the final stages of completion. According to the contract documents, construction of the People’s School facility in Bekasi Regency is ongoing until 27 July 2026,” Alamsyah said.

The Bekasi Regency Government is targeting the completion of all work according to the contract schedule. If there are no obstacles in the handover process, the MPLS agenda is scheduled to begin at the end of this month. “God willing, MPLS will start on 31 July,” he added.

Despite the infrastructure still being finalised, Alamsyah confirmed that the managerial and student affairs aspects of the Bekasi Regency People’s School are fully prepared. All prospective students have undergone a selection and verification process, up to the issuance of the Decree (SK).

All accepted students are children from families classified in decile 1 and decile 2. Based on central government data, this group includes poor and extremely poor communities in the Bekasi Regency area. The programme is expected to serve as a bridge for them to access quality education without financial barriers.

The postponement in Bekasi Regency aligns with the directive of Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf regarding the operational standardisation of People’s Schools. The minister, familiarly known as Gus Ipul, stated that the implementation of MPLS across regions is being carried out in stages over four waves.

This non-simultaneous scheduling is based on a rigorous evaluation of three main aspects at each school location. “Classrooms, dormitories, and supporting facilities must be confirmed as habitable before students arrive,” Gus Ipul stressed. This policy is taken to ensure that when students enter the dormitories or school environment, they are not disturbed by ongoing construction activities or a lack of basic facilities that could hinder the adaptation process.
