Bekasi Regency Hospital's Emergency Department Overcrowded During Eid, Acting Regent Prepares Expansion
Bekasi - The Acting Regent (Plt) of Bekasi, Asep Surya Atmaja, plans to expand the space at Bekasi Regency Hospital using a clustering system based on disease types to improve the quality of healthcare services. Asep stated that the development concept would separate patient handling by disease category to avoid mixing in the same area. “For the future, we want to implement clustering. For example, contagious infectious diseases in one building, internal medicine in one building, surgery in one building. So the rooms won’t be mixed. If they’re mixed, it’s troublesome,” said Asep when confirmed on Thursday (26/3/2026). This plan emerged after Asep conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) at Bekasi Regency Hospital on Wednesday (25/3/2026). During the visit, he found several facilities that were deemed no longer adequate. “This is our homework for the future regarding the budget,” said Asep. Asep emphasised that the Bekasi Regency Government is ready to prioritise the budget for hospital facility improvements because it concerns public safety. He also said he had directly discussed with the Director of Bekasi Regency Hospital, Sri Enny Mainiarti, regarding the needs that must be immediately fulfilled. “Insha Allah, we are ready. Because this concerns healthcare services and lives. So we will prioritise this in the future for healthcare services,” he stated. “We consider the Regency Hospital’s services to be quite good,” he added. Regarding the accumulation of patients in the Emergency Department (IGD), Asep emphasised that the condition is not caused by slow service, but is part of medical procedures. “So the public must understand that in the IGD, it’s not being held up. In the IGD, patients are observed, so they’re not just left idle,” he said. According to him, patients must undergo a series of examinations first, such as CT scans, X-rays, and other follow-up checks before being moved to the treatment room.
