Bekasi Regency Government to Develop Taman Sehati at Wibawamukti Stadium into Integrated Public Space
The Bekasi Regency Government will develop the Taman Sehati area in front of Wibawamukti Stadium, East Cikarang, into an integrated public space. The park will combine a family recreation area, a culinary centre, green open spaces, and a hub for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The development of the area is expected to create a new tourist destination for the community while simultaneously encouraging local economic growth and increasing locally generated revenue (PAD). This was conveyed by Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja during a visit to the Taman Sehati area. The inspection, conducted with regional officials, students, and youth organisations, is an initial step towards formulating a concept for the area’s arrangement to make it more organised and economically valuable. The Acting Regent stated that Bekasi Regency has not yet had a representative public space for the community to gather and enjoy leisure activities, particularly on weekends. ‘We want to create a comfortable public space. There will be a culinary area, a children’s playground, and a place to relax while enjoying musical entertainment, so the community has the option to gather with family without having to leave the area,’ said Asep Surya on Monday (27/7). He added that the Taman Sehati area will be divided into several zones, such as a culinary area, a children’s playground, green open spaces, and an entertainment area. The arrangement will be led by relevant regional agencies, incorporating input from academics and the younger generation. Asep emphasised that the area’s development is not only aimed at beautifying the face of Bekasi Regency but also at becoming a new centre of economic activity through the empowerment of MSME players. ‘We will not evict the community. Instead, we will facilitate MSMEs so they can grow into an economic strength for the people of Bekasi Regency,’ he said. He will also open up space for various elements of society to provide ideas and innovations for the area’s development. The Bekasi Regency Government will invite community leaders, academics, community organisations, and students to jointly refine the arrangement concept. In addition to utilising the available budget, the government will also optimise support from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes from companies and banks as a source of funding for the development. Through the arrangement of Taman Sehati, the Bekasi Regency Government hopes to create a new icon of a comfortable public space, strengthen the MSME sector, increase locally generated revenue, and support the realisation of the vision of ‘Bangkit, Maju, Sejahtera’ (Rise, Progress, Prosper).
