Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja accompanied Minister of Housing and Settlement Maruarar Sirait in inspecting the progress of the subsidized apartment (rusun) construction in the Meikarta area, South Cikarang, on Tuesday (26 May). The visit aimed to assess land readiness and initial progress of the subsidized vertical housing for low-income households (MBR). This inspection is part of central and local government efforts to strengthen collaboration in providing affordable and decent housing in urban and industrial areas. The delegation inspected various construction sites and heard technical briefings on the planned development of the subsidized rusun area in Meikarta. Minister of Housing and Settlement Maruarar Sirait stated the government remains committed to accelerating housing provision for low-income groups through the subsidized rusun programme. He expressed hope the development would provide decent housing close to community activity centres. ‘We are eagerly looking forward to seeing residents securing decent, well-located housing near their workplaces (industries), which is why we will continue pushing for the rusun construction to proceed as planned,’ Maruarar was quoted as saying on the Bekasi Regency website. He noted construction progress is visible with partial foundation piles completed. ‘Currently, around 1,836 foundation piles have been built out of a total planned 8,600,’ he explained. The minister added that the Meikarta subsidized rusun development is planned across three sites, each approximately 10 hectares, featuring multi-storey towers for low-income residents. Each tower is designed to be around 30 storeys high, with unit types ranging from one-bedroom (25m²), two-bedroom (35m²), to three-bedroom (45m²). The government aims to begin handing over keys to prospective residents between August and September 2026, with full construction completion targeted for August 2028. ‘The construction completion target remains on schedule for August 2028,’ he stated. Meanwhile, Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja expressed full support for accelerating vertical housing construction in Bekasi Regency, including streamlining local permit processes. ‘Permit processes are ongoing, and the local government is committed to expediting and overseeing all stages to ensure the project is realised promptly in line with applicable regulations,’ he said. Bekasi Regency hopes the project will proceed smoothly and deliver tangible benefits to the public, especially industrial workers in need of affordable, decent housing. (AK/I-1)
