The panel of judges at the Cikarang District Court has rejected a request to suspend the detention of Bekasi Regency DPRD member Nyumarno and two other defendants in an alleged assault case. The request was submitted by the defendants’ legal team during the third hearing held at the Cikarang District Court on Thursday (20/8). However, the panel of judges rejected the request, stating that there were no urgent grounds to grant the detention suspension. “The detention suspension cannot be accepted because there is no urgency,” said the presiding judge.

Responding to the decision, the victim’s lawyer, Dani Bahdani, said that the matter of detention suspension is entirely within the authority of the panel of judges. He stated that the victim’s side is not in a position to intervene in the decision. “The suspension matter is entirely the right of the panel of judges. Whether the request can be accepted or not is ultimately the authority of the panel of judges, and we cannot intervene,” he said.

Dani also responded to the defence presented by the defendants’ lawyers, who claimed that the defendants were not at the scene or did not commit the acts as charged. According to Dani, such objections are the right of the defendants and their legal counsel. However, he added that the truth will still be tested through the legal facts revealed during the trial. “Regarding the submission and objections from the defendants’ lawyers, that is legitimate. We will just see the facts of the trial,” he said.

Furthermore, Dani stated that his side remains confident that the legal process carried out by investigators, public prosecutors, and the panel of judges has followed proper stages and considerations based on available facts and evidence. “It is impossible for investigators to carry out detention without finding facts or statements from several witnesses. Moreover, the case has already entered trial,” he said.

Previously, a man named Fendy (41) reported an alleged assault involving a Bekasi Regency DPRD member with the initial N at a restaurant in South Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, in October 2025. After investigation, police named N, a Bekasi Regency DPRD member, and two other individuals as suspects. During the first hearing on Wednesday (5/8), the public prosecutor charged N and two others with jointly committing violence that caused the victim to suffer injuries. “The defendants are charged that on 30 October 2025, at a restaurant, they committed violence together, resulting in injuries to the victim,” said the prosecutor.

In a subsequent hearing on Wednesday (12/8), Fendy as the victim rejected the restorative justice effort proposed during the trial. Fendy said that the attempt to resolve the matter amicably was too late. “It has been too long. Why did they not come to me from the beginning, apologise, and admit if they were indeed guilty,” Fendy told reporters on Wednesday (12/8).
