Bekasi Regency deploys 18 trucks to transport 20,000 tonnes of rubbish from illegal TPS
Bekasi Regency (ANTARA) - The Bekasi Regency Government in West Java has deployed 18 trucks to gradually transport a mountain of rubbish weighing 20,000 tonnes from an illegal temporary disposal site (TPS) in Kampung Turi, Sriamur Village, Tambun Utara Subdistrict. “Based on estimates, the volume of rubbish at this illegal TPS reaches 20,000 tonnes, requiring serious handling supported by adequate resources,” said the Head of UPTD Region II of the Bekasi Regency Environmental Agency, Adi Suryana, in Bekasi on Thursday. The expanse of rubbish at the illegal landfill site is observed to cover an area of 3,000 square metres, with piles stacked up to a height of eight metres and buried up to seven metres deep, and it has been operating for over a decade. This rubbish transportation activity is an instruction from Acting Regent of Bekasi, Asep Surya Atmaja, who directly inspected the area and shut down the disposal operations two days ago to follow up on complaints from nearby residents. The deployment of 18 truck units is intended to accelerate the process of transporting the rubbish that has been piling up for quite some time at the location. Each truck has a carrying capacity of four tonnes per trip, so it is hoped that the rubbish volume can be significantly reduced in the initial stage of handling, which is carried out continuously. “Today we are carrying out the rubbish lifting activity gradually. Officers are also on standby to directly monitor every process,” he said. All the rubbish transported from the illegal TPS is taken to the Burangkeng Final Disposal Site (TPA) to ensure that the management runs in accordance with applicable provisions and environmental standards. Adi said that the deployment of a large number of trucks for this activity has the potential to affect routine rubbish transportation services in other areas, so service adjustments are needed to keep them running optimally.
