JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia now possesses the largest and most complete international-standard vehicle testing facility in Southeast Asia. This facility is a proving ground equipped with crash testing capabilities, owned by the Balai Pengujian Laik Jalan dan Sertifikasi Kendaraan Bermotor (BPLJSKB). The proving ground was constructed to support comprehensive vehicle testing, ranging from performance, braking, stability, to safety during collisions. “Perhaps some neighbouring countries are still building theirs, but they are not yet finished. Meanwhile, we, alhamdulillah, have completed it in a relatively short time and it has been usable for about a year,” he said. This BPLJSKB proving ground is located in Cibitung, Bekasi, West Java. Its construction took place in 2023 and it will begin operations in August 2025. The existence of this proving ground is expected to assist the national automotive industry, as vehicle testing no longer needs to be conducted abroad. “In the future, its utilisation will continue to be enhanced for the greatest benefit of our nation,” said Iman. One of its main facilities is the High-Speed Oval Track, an oval high-speed circuit approximately 3.5 kilometres long. This track is designed to test vehicles under extreme conditions, such as travelling at very high speeds. It can reach up to 250 km per hour on the straight sections and 120 km on the curves. For laypeople, this testing is important to ensure vehicles remain stable and safe when used in certain conditions, for example, during sudden manoeuvres or high-speed travel on toll roads. This area is used for various vehicle testing simulations, including handling, manoeuvres, and stability testing.
