BEKASI - The Proving Ground owned by the Centre for Motor Vehicle Roadworthiness Testing and Certification (BPLJSKB) in Cibitung, Bekasi, West Java, is expected to strengthen the development of the national automotive industry.

Head of BPLJSKB, Iman Sukandar, stated that the utilisation of the Proving Ground is not limited to vehicle certification needs.

“The most important aspect is the utilisation of the existing facilities, particularly for homologation or type approval purposes. However, we are also opening opportunities for prototype needs, product development, research, and so on,” Iman told Kompas.com recently.

“We are collaborating with various parties to support the development of the national automotive industry,” Iman said.

“In this context, besides ensuring compliance with technology requirements related to safety, we also aim to provide impetus for the automotive industry to develop more efficiently and become increasingly competitive in the future,” he added.

He further noted that the utilisation of the Proving Ground will continue to be enhanced to support various needs of the national automotive industry.

“In the future, its utilisation will be continuously increased for the greatest benefit of our nation,” Iman said.

With this facility, vehicle testing that previously had to be conducted abroad can now be carried out domestically.

In addition to reducing testing costs, the homologation or type approval process for vehicles is expected to become faster as it is supported by international-standard facilities.

The track is designed to test vehicles under extreme conditions, including at high speeds. Vehicles can be driven up to 250 kilometres per hour on the straight track and around 120 kilometres per hour when navigating corners.

In addition to the High-Speed Oval Track, the BPLJSKB Proving Ground also features a Dynamic Area spanning more than 6 hectares.

This area is used for simulating various vehicle testing conditions, such as handling, manoeuvring, and vehicle stability.
