Bekasi - Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto has requested that the guarding of the Ampera level crossing in Duren Jaya Ward, Bekasi Timur District, be carried out by official personnel, not by unofficial local youths (‘akamsi’), to improve safety for road users.

He made this request in response to the high traffic activity in the area, as well as a precautionary step following a train accident at Bekasi Timur Station.

“We want to ensure that the guarding of this crossing is done by official personnel who have clear responsibilities and safety standards,” Tri said when met at the Bekasi City Hall Plaza on Monday (4/5/2026).

He emphasised that guarding by authorised parties would be implemented until the completion of the Bulak Kapal Flyover construction as a long-term solution to eliminate the level crossing.

Tri stated that this policy is also a follow-up to directives from West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, who stressed that supervision at railway crossings must be carried out by official personnel to guarantee public safety.

On the other hand, Tri explained that the Ampera crossing continues to operate, considering the high volume of vehicles in the area.

“Because the traffic is dense. If it is closed, it will actually disrupt the national road. If the national road is disrupted, the capacity will be even higher. So it is indeed a difficult choice,” he said.

Tri mentioned that his side is currently evaluating the possibility of closing the crossing while preparing infrastructure construction as a permanent solution.

For information, the accident occurred between the Cikarang-bound KRL train number PLB 5568A and the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi Argo Bromo Anggrek train on the platform of Bekasi Timur Station at KM 28+920 on Monday (27/4/2026) around 20.52 WIB.

The total casualties in the incident reached 106 people. Sixteen people died after receiving treatment, while 90 others were injured. All 240 passengers of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were reported safe.
