Bekasi Mayor Plants 200 Trees in Duta Harapan to Expand Green Spaces
The Bekasi municipal government continues its efforts to improve environmental quality whilst expanding green open space (Ruang Terbuka Hijau, RTH). The latest step was realised through a tree-planting activity in the Duta Harapan Lake area, North Bekasi District, on Monday (3/8).
The activity was led directly by the Mayor of Bekasi, Tri Adhianto, as part of the regional government’s commitment to the success of the three-million-tree planting programme across Bekasi City. Some 200 trees were planted in the area around the lake in the greening drive.
Accompanying the Mayor were the Head of the Bekasi City Environment Agency, Kiswatiningsih, the Head of the Roads and Water Resources Agency (BMSDA), Idi Sutanto, RW Forum officials, community figures, and local residents who took an active part in this mutual cooperation effort.
Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto affirmed that tree planting is a concrete step towards maintaining the balance of the urban ecosystem. Beyond beautifying the area, trees serve a vital ecological function.
“Today we are planting 200 trees as part of accelerating the three-million-tree programme target. This is not merely planting trees, but preparing a better environmental legacy for our children and grandchildren. The more trees that grow, the greater the benefits people will enjoy in the future,” said Tri Adhianto.
He added that the trees will absorb rainwater, lower air temperature, improve air quality, and support global efforts to tackle climate change.
According to Tri, the success of a large-scale greening programme cannot rely on government action alone. Strong synergy between the government, communities, and all elements of society is needed to make tree planting a shared culture.
“The success of this programme is measured not only by the number of trees planted, but by how well we care for them. I invite all residents to look after these trees together so they grow healthily, making Bekasi greener, cooler, and more comfortable to live in,” he added.
The Duta Harapan Lake area was chosen because it has great potential as a comfortable public space whilst also functioning as a water infiltration zone. Greening at this site is considered strategic for preserving the environment in North Bekasi.
The activity proceeded in a spirit of togetherness, with regional agencies and residents working shoulder to shoulder to plant saplings at designated points. Through this initiative, the Bekasi municipal government hopes the area’s capacity to absorb rainwater will increase and residents can enjoy cleaner air on a sustainable basis.
