Bekasi Mayor Cracks Down on Cable Digging Work Causing Traffic Congestion

Bekasi (ANTARA) - Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto Tjahyono has taken action against optical cable digging activities causing traffic congestion at several points by issuing stern reprimands to the implementing parties. During a surprise inspection on Jalan Jatimakmur and Jalan Wibawa Mukti in Jatiasih sub-district on Sunday, Tri Adhianto emphasised that the optical cable digging work lacked official permits and was damaging road infrastructure. In addition to ruining the road surface, the digging activities also caused serious traffic disruptions, often leading to long queues on several road sections. “This situation is certainly very disturbing to the public, especially road users directly affected,” he said. He stated that similar incidents had occurred previously and the relevant parties had already been warned. However, the recurrence of these violations indicates a lack of compliance with applicable regulations. “We have previously reminded that every digging work must have official permits and consider road conditions. However, today we still found the same violations; this cannot be allowed,” he said. At the location, Tri directly contacted the Secretary of the Bekasi City Transportation Department, Teguh Indrianto, to issue instructions for on-site coordination, including halting the work and restoring traffic conditions. “I demand immediate action, coordinate with relevant parties, and ensure that these disruptive activities are stopped. This road is used by the wider public; it must not be damaged or disrupt residents’ activities,” he said. The Bekasi City Government reaffirms its commitment to maintaining order and the quality of the city’s infrastructure. All parties are urged to comply with permitting regulations and prioritise public safety and comfort in every development activity. With this firm action, it is hoped that similar violations will not occur again in the future, so that road conditions remain well-maintained and public activities can proceed smoothly without hindrance.
