Bekasi launches electricity raid
BEKASI, West Java (JP): The state electricity company's (PT PLN) Bekasi office has launched a crackdown on electricity current theft.
Rusdi Lubis, a member of the crackdown team, said raids had found many cases of electricity theft. "The thefts have inflicted a huge financial loss on the state".
He said at least 60 percent of the 3,000 consumers checked were found to be stealing electricity. He cited the Jaka Setia subdistrict housing complex.
"You can imagine how much the government has suffered because of such an irresponsible act. This has happened for a very long time," he said.
The Bekasi PLN has conducted the operation since late last month in cooperation with the Bekasi police precinct. Equipped with a special device, the team members can easily detect electricity theft.
Rusdi said PLN would continue the operation throughout greater Jakarta soon. (akm)
