Bekasi in the dark

JAKARTA: It is dark in Bekasi at night as the town is poorly lighted.

Head of the streetlighting office Muchtadi Muchtar said that there were only 1,248 streetlights, far from the required 6,382 streetlights, Antara reported.

The bulbs which have been installed are of 125 watts, 70 watts and 150 watts, he said on Tuesday.

He said that the calculation was based on the length of the roads in Bekasi, which cover 256,150 kilometers, and that the maximum distance between streetlights should be 40 meters.

This year, the office plans to install 180 new lights along Bekasi streets, compared to 254 in 2001.--JP
