A house in Royal Park Residence, Mustika Jaya, Bekasi City, was targeted by a burglar. Cash in US dollars and euros, along with an orange iPhone 17 Pro Max and a white gold ring, were stolen.

Bekasi City Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, explained that the burglary occurred on Sunday, 24 May, at around 10:00 WIB. At the time, the victim and homeowner was away attending a church service.

“The victim, with the initials VEL (30), and his family left the house locked to worship at church,” Kusumo stated during a press conference at the Bekasi City Metro Police headquarters on Friday, 19 June 2026.

Kusumo revealed that the victim lost a significant amount of property in the incident. This included 50 US dollar bills in USD 100 denominations, 20 euro notes of various denominations, several Singapore dollars, 50 Rp 100,000 notes, one white gold ring, and an orange iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Following the victim’s report, the police launched an investigation. The suspect was subsequently captured on CCTV.

“The perpetrator, who is a friend of the victim’s younger sibling, was arrested after his actions were recorded by CCTV,” Kusumo clarified.

The suspect was apprehended at the Grand Vista housing complex in Serang Baru, Bekasi Regency.

“Based on the investigation, the Criminal Investigation Unit’s Mobile Detective Team of the Bekasi City Metro Police successfully arrested IMT (19) at the Grand Vista housing complex, Jayamulya Village, Serang Baru District, Bekasi Regency, on Saturday, 13 June 2026,” Kusumo disclosed.

From the investigation, Kusumo conveyed that IMT frequently visited the victim’s house due to his friendship with the victim’s younger sibling. The perpetrator was already aware of where the victim and his family stored the house key when they went out.

“The perpetrator knew the location of the house key, which the victim kept on a shoe rack near the entrance. The key was once seen by the perpetrator while he was friends with the victim’s sibling,” Kusumo said.

During the crime, IMT headed straight to the victim’s bedroom. There, he opened an unlocked drawer and immediately grabbed the victim’s cash and iPhone.

The foreign currency, consisting of US dollars and euros, was first exchanged by IMT at a money changer. The total amount of money IMT obtained was Rp 33.4 million.

The tens of millions of rupiah were then used by the perpetrator to purchase a watch, shoes, clothing, and a phone case. The remainder was spent on online gambling, paying debts, and daily meals.

“Rp 19 million from the dollars was used to buy a Seiko watch for Rp 4.5 million, New Balance shoes for Rp 2.4 million, and an H&M t-shirt for Rp 299,000. The Rp 13 million from the euros was used for online gambling and paying debts. Meanwhile, the Singapore dollars were used for food and buying a phone case,” Kusumo detailed.

“The motive was economic. The perpetrator is unemployed. The money was spent on a lavish lifestyle, daily needs, and online gambling,” he added.

Kusumo stated that the police have seized a number of pieces of evidence, including the remaining money not yet spent by IMT. IMT will be charged under Article 476 of Law Number 1 of 2023, the Criminal Code, concerning theft, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years or a maximum fine of category V, Rp 500 million.
