Bekasi Government Provides Assistance to 8 Child Victims of Tenda Biru Human Trafficking Case
The Bekasi Regency Government is providing assistance to eight children who are victims of an alleged human trafficking case uncovered by the Metro Jaya Regional Police in the Tenda Biru area, Cibitung District. ‘We deployed a special assistance team consisting of social workers and clinical psychologists after receiving an official request from the Directorate of Women and Children Protection of the Metro Jaya Police,’ said Fahrul Fauzi, Head of the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children in Bekasi Regency, over the weekend. He explained that the assistance process began after the victims completed medical examinations at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, with the children being temporarily housed at the UPTD PPA safe house in Bekasi Regency. While at the safe house, the victims received social support and psychological assessments to aid their recovery and support the investigation process. ‘Because the victims are not residents of Bekasi Regency and come from various regions, they have now been referred to the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, but we continue to provide assistance,’ he clarified. The human trafficking case was uncovered by the Metro Jaya Police during operations in Cibitung, Bekasi, and West Jakarta on 25-26 May 2026. During the Bekasi operation, police found eight children allegedly employed as song guides and in similar roles. A total of 37 people were detained, and 12 suspects from four cafes in the Tenda Biru localisation area were named. The suspects are being charged under the Child Protection Law, the Sexual Violence Crime Law, and several articles of the Criminal Code. Komnas Child Protection Commissioner for West Java, Wawan Wartawan, commended the police for uncovering the alleged sexual exploitation of children. ‘We appreciate the success of the Metro Jaya Police in exposing child exploitation practices at Tenda Biru. This action is clear evidence of law enforcement’s commitment to protecting children from human trafficking crimes,’ he said. He stressed that his party would oversee the legal process of this trafficking case to its conclusion while also pushing for comprehensive recovery for the victims through psychological assistance, trauma healing, and the fulfilment of their educational rights.
