Being a firefighter involves more than just handling fire reports. There are also citizens who request unusual assistance.

The Rescue Team Leader of Group 5, South Bekasi Fire Department, Roby Cahiente, stated that there have been instances where people requested help to remove a ring from their genitalia. He also mentioned residents seeking assistance to evacuate cows that had fallen into ditches.

“The most notable ones, apologies, were things like a ring stuck on the genitalia, or during the Eid al-Adha sacrifice season, cows falling into ditches, things like that,” said Roby after serving residents who were testing the emergency slide at the South Bekasi Fire Department office on Thursday (25/06/2026).

For information, the emergency slide at the South Bekasi Fire Department office went viral after several residents tried it out. Residents flocked to try sliding from the upper floor of the fire station under the supervision of officers.

Returning to the topic of unusual requests, Roby mentioned that the request for help removing a ring from the genitalia falls under the category of non-fire rescues. He explained that officers used a small grinder to cut the ring.

“For the ring, we use a mini-grinder to cut it. We cut the ring,” he explained.

He stated that officers always carry tools appropriate for field requirements, including when rescuing sacrificial cows from ditches.

“We assess the terrain and determine what tools need to be prepared. For example, if a cow falls into a ditch, we need ropes, tripods, and so on,” he said.

Roby noted that firefighters remain on standby at the base even when there are no emergency calls. He added that officers consistently engage in physical training to ensure they are prepared when an emergency call arrives.

“Actually, even when there are no emergency calls, we review the lessons from our previous training. We review what we learned, practice our competencies, and also work on our physical fitness,” he said.
