Bekasi East Train Accident Case Elevated to Investigation Stage
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Police have elevated the case of the KRL and KA Argo Bromo accident involving a Green SM taxi in Bekasi East, Bekasi, to the investigation stage. The Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the case is currently being handled by the Sub-Directorate of State Security (Kamneg) of Metro Jaya Regional Police. “This has been upgraded to the investigation stage. Scene checks, witness examinations, evidence collection, and CCTV analysis have already been conducted,” Budi said at Silang Timur Monas, Thursday (30/4/2026). Police are still delving deeper into the information regarding the electric taxi’s stoppage at the Ampera level crossing. According to Budi, no suspects have been designated in this case despite the elevation to investigation. This is because the Central Forensic Laboratory of National Police Headquarters is still investigating the cause of the taxi’s stoppage in the middle of the tracks. “If it’s a witness, detention has not been carried out; we clarify that. So, if it’s a witness, we still need the individual for some statements,” Budi said. According to the driver’s initial examination statement, the vehicle’s doors could not even be opened because the engine had died. When the car was restarted, the driver could only open the window and exit from there. So far, police have examined 24 witnesses. For information, the accident occurred between the Cikarang-bound KRL number PLB 5568A and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi around 20:52 WIB on Monday (27/4/2026). The incident took place on the platform of Bekasi Timur Station, precisely at KM 28+920. The President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Bobby Rasyidin, stated that the collision between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and the KRL is suspected to have originated from an incident at the level crossing about 200 metres from Bekasi Timur Station.
