Bekasi – The Bekasi City Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) is urging relevant departments to immediately conduct data collection on victims of the fire at the Bulk LPG Filling Station (SPBE) in Cimuning, Mustika Jaya Subdistrict.

Anton, a member of Commission II of the Bekasi City DPRD, emphasised the urgency of the data collection. A swift approach is deemed essential to ensure that assistance reaches the affected residents promptly.

“We are requesting that the relevant departments immediately collect data because the victims cannot wait,” Anton stated when contacted on Friday (3/4/2026).

Furthermore, the DPRD plans to evaluate the presence of SPBE facilities in Bekasi City, particularly regarding their operational suitability.

“In the future, we will collect data on the SPBE facilities in Bekasi City to determine whether they are fit to operate or not. If violations are found, we will take firm steps to recommend cessation,” Anton asserted.

Sarwin Edi Saputra, a member of Commission I of the Bekasi City DPRD, highlighted the location of the SPBE in the midst of a densely populated settlement. According to him, the very close proximity between the SPBE and residents’ homes amplified the fire’s impact.

“From what we see, the SPBE is indeed located in a densely populated settlement. And from the data we received, there are around 18 victims with burns averaging 70 to 90 percent,” Sarwin said.

“We want to ensure how far the SPBE party has conducted data collection and what form of compensation is being provided to the residents. Because from residents’ information, there has been no compensation so far,” he added.

The DPRD is also pushing for a comprehensive evaluation of SPBE locations to prevent them from being in densely populated areas.

“At the very least, there should be an evaluation and inspection of existing SPBE facilities. They should not be too close to settlements to minimise similar incidents,” Sarwin further stated.

Previously, a major fire engulfed the Cimuning SPBE on Wednesday night (1/4/2026). The burned area is estimated to cover around 2,000 square metres.

“The burned land is about 2,000 square metres. The preliminary suspicion is due to an electrical short circuit,” said Heryanto, Acting Head of the Bekasi City Fire and Rescue Department (Damkarmat).

As a result of the incident, nearly the entire SPBE area suffered heavy damage. At the time of the fire, the SPBE was known to be operational, thereby increasing the risks, including the potential for gas explosions.
