Bekasi Civil Servants Face Internet Issues During WFH: WiFi Connection Frequently Drops
The work-from-home (WFH) policy implemented for civil servants (ASN) in Bekasi City is not entirely running without obstacles.
Muhammad Ircham Renza, a government employee under a fixed-term contract (PPPK) at the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) of Bekasi City, admitted to experiencing technical disruptions with his internet connection during WFH.
“Actually, there are no major obstacles. It’s just that the network (WiFi internet) tends to disconnect frequently,” said Renza to Kompas.com when met at his residence on Friday (10/4/2026).
“During WFH, we still have to activate GPS, so our performance remains monitored. Work also continues effectively just like when working in the office,” he stated.
In addition to technical issues, Renza assessed that implementing WFH on Fridays could potentially create negative perceptions if not accompanied by adequate supervision.
This is due to its proximity to the weekend, which could trigger the potential for a long weekend.
“If WFH falls on a Friday, it’s not quite right. Because after that it’s Saturday and Sunday, so it could be used for holidays,” he explained.
To prevent misuse of the policy, he suggested that agencies conduct routine or random supervision of employees carrying out WFH.
“Perhaps one of them is routine or random checks for every WFH participant. So it can reduce those who slip away for a long weekend,” he clarified.
“I realise that WFH on Friday is not meant to be an opportunity for a long weekend. We must remain professional and complete work according to our responsibilities,” he added.
On the other hand, Renza acknowledged that the WFH policy also provides benefits, particularly in saving daily operational costs such as consumption and transportation.
“In my opinion, the WFH regulation can save costs, especially for consumption expenses. Because there’s no money spent on lunch, and also transport fares,” he said.
Under normal conditions, Renza works in the office from 07.30 to 16.00 WIB and uses a motorbike as his mode of transportation.
