Bekasi City Government Temporarily Halts Padel Court Project Opposed by School Parents

The Bekasi City Spatial Planning Agency (Distaru) has temporarily halted the construction of a padel court situated directly in front of Asshodriyah Islamic School (AIS) on Jalan Caman Raya, Jatibening Ward, Pondok Gede Subdistrict, Bekasi City, West Java.

Head of Distaru Bekasi City, Arief Maulana, stated that the temporary suspension was implemented after objections arose from the school and parents who expressed concerns about the padel court’s presence.

“From our side at Distaru, we have visited the site and the activity has been temporarily stopped. We have also instructed the regional UPTD to halt the construction activities,” Arief told journalists at the location on Friday (8/5/2026).

However, the Bekasi City Government assesses that the construction process should have been socialised to the surrounding community, including the school directly opposite the project site.

“The information we received is that the school has not yet been informed about the start of the construction implementation,” Arief said.

Therefore, the Bekasi City Government plans to bring together the school and the padel court business owner through a mediation process.

The mediation will discuss various aspects, from security and comfort to potential disruptions to students’ learning activities.

“It will be on Monday,” he said.

Previously, the padel court construction had faced rejection from the school and parents of AIS Bekasi students.

A representative of the AIS parents, Moniqe (39), stated that the padel court construction is seen as potentially causing noise and endangering students due to its proximity to the school area.

She assessed that the project is being carried out without adequate safety measures, such as safety nets or project area barriers, even though students are still active in the school environment.
