BEKASI — The Bekasi City Government (Pemkot Bekasi), through the Spatial Planning Agency (Distaru) of Bekasi City, stated that the construction of a padel court in front of Asshodriyah Islamic School (AIS), Jalan Caman Raya, Jatibening Ward, Pondok Gede Subdistrict, Bekasi City, complies with the applicable spatial zoning regulations.

“The permit for the spatial pattern for that activity is indeed in accordance with the Detailed Spatial Plan (RDTR) and the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW),” said the Head of Distaru Bekasi City, Arief Maulana, to the media on Friday (8/5/2026).

Nevertheless, Distaru assessed that the construction implementation should first be socialised to the surrounding community, including the school whose location is directly in front of the project site.

The Bekasi City Government also plans to bring together the school party and the padel court managers to find a joint solution to the polemic that has arisen.

According to him, the mediation will discuss various matters, from security aspects, comfort, to potential disruptions to students’ teaching and learning activities at the school.

“It will be on Monday,” he said.

Previously reported, the construction of the padel court covering around 2,000 square metres has drawn rejection from the school and parents because it stands right in front of Asshodriyah Islamic School (AIS) Bekasi.

The padel court construction is deemed noisy and dangerous for the children.

The Head of Asshodriyah Islamic School Bekasi, Ahmad Baidowi, said the school has sent an objection letter to the Bekasi City Government since early 2026.

While rejecting the construction location, Ahmad emphasised that the school does not oppose the existence of padel sports.

“We are not allergic to padel sports, but what we regret is why it is too close to the school,” he said.

Kompas.com observations at the site showed that the construction is still at the stage of installing iron frames and piling posts at several corners of the project area.

At the front of the location, an information board for Building Construction Approval (PBG) Number SK-PBG-327508-17042026-022 dated 17 April 2026 is also installed, with the building function as a sports facility and business premises.

Kompas.com has attempted to obtain statements from the business owner or building manager at the site. However, no parties were available for interview.
