Bekasi Brawl Perpetrator Sentenced to 10 Years for Student's Murder

The panel of judges at the Bekasi District Court found Tri Fahrezi Agustian, also known as Rezi, guilty in the brawl case that killed a university student with the initials TRB. Rezi was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

“Declares that the Defendant Tri Fahrezi Agustian Alias Rezi Bin Wanto S mentioned above has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the criminal act of participating in murder as charged in the first indictment. Sentences the defendant to imprisonment for 10 years,” read the verdict against Rezi, as seen on the Bekasi District Court’s Case Tracking Information System website on Sunday (16/8/2026).

This sentence is lower than the prosecutor’s demand of 13 years in prison. The judges also did not grant restitution of Rp 75 million to the victim’s family.

The verdict was handed down by a panel of judges chaired by Muhifuddin, with Purnama and Nasrullah as members. The judge ordered that the defendant remain in detention.

In the indictment, the prosecutor stated that Rezi’s actions were carried out together with a juvenile offender, Nanang Oval alias Opet, and Fajar alias Kampleng, in front of the Bekasi Creative Center building on Jalan Sersan Aswan, Margahayu, Bekasi, in the early hours of Sunday (18/1/2026). The prosecutor said the deadly brawl began when Rezi and his friends were hanging out and drinking in Gang Delima, Bekasi.

Rezi then opened the Instagram account ‘Tongkrong delima 0708’ and received a message from ‘Instagram Dewisartika’ containing the phrases ‘Come out’, ‘Let’s have a brawl’, and ‘In front of Bella’ (Bella Hospital). The prosecutor said Rezi informed his friends of the challenge.

“At that time they replied ‘let’s go’, and the defendant Tri Fahrezi also informed the ‘kaum’ group of the challenge via the Instagram social media account ‘kaumslow’. In short, Rezi and his friends set off towards the riverbank beside Bella Hospital.

The prosecutor said Opet and Kampleng, who are now fugitives, had already brought sharp weapons in the form of sickles and bamboo poles for the brawl. Rezi and his friends, numbering around 20 people, then set off to the front of the Bekasi Creative Center building.

“Upon arriving at the scene, they saw the victim holding a sickle measuring 2 metres in length which was used to attack the Kaum and Delima groups, and this ultimately provoked the defendant’s emotions and anger,” the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor said the defendant and the victim then swung and slashed at each other with the sickles they had each prepared. The sickle held by the victim struck the defendant’s right thumb.

Rezi reportedly tried to retreat. Meanwhile, the victim, who tried to flee, then fell.

The defendant then turned around and chased the fallen victim. The defendant Rezi then slashed his sickle at the victim’s right back, after which Opet and Kampleng also slashed their sickles at the victim’s head.

The juvenile offender then hacked the victim on the left thigh. The victim subsequently died from wounds caused by the sickles wielded by the perpetrators. In addition to Rezi, the judge also handed down a three-year prison sentence to the juvenile offender in this case.
