Beijing approves establishment of space-based computing industry innovation centre
Beijing (ANTARA) - Beijing has approved the establishment of the city’s first space-based computing industry innovation centre, which is set to connect the entire space-based computing industry chain and promote the development of the satellite Internet of Things (IoT) sector, according to Science and Technology Daily on Wednesday.
The innovation centre has set six key research areas, including highly reliable and heat-resistant space-based computing chips, space-based computing payloads with ultra-high connectivity and high performance, satellite platforms and standard space-based computing systems, large models based in space under limited power conditions, integrated cloud-based space-ground measurement and control networks, and service-oriented and tokenised space-based computing power operations.
The innovation centre is expected to be officially launched at the end of June, the report said.
According to another report by Beijing Daily, space-based computing refers to an emerging computing paradigm that applies data processing, storage, intelligent analysis, and decision-making capabilities to orbital platforms such as satellites and space stations.
The innovation centre is jointly led by the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) and a number of leading companies in the space-based computing sector.
Beijing is home to China’s most complete aerospace and computing industry chain, said Wang Shangguang, dean of the School of Computer Science at BUPT, as quoted by Beijing Daily. He added that the city brings together various rocket and satellite companies, large model companies, and chip companies, which provide a unique foundation for the development of space-based computing.
