BEI pushes for Indonesian stocks to rejoin global MSCI and FTSE indexes
JAKARTA (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) has confirmed efforts to reintegrate Indonesian equities into global MSCI and FTSE Russell indexes.
Acting CEO Jeffrey Hendrik said BEI will engage with potential issuers to help their stocks meet criteria for inclusion in global indexes. “I will discuss how we can collectively increase the number of listed companies eligible for global indexes, in the right way and in accordance with regulations. We will provide support for this,” he said in an interview at BEI’s headquarters in Jakarta on Monday.
He added that BEI is preparing a schedule for discussions with potential issuers, targeting a near-term timeline. “It will not be long. We cannot yet specify the date, but it is being finalised internally,” he said.
Potential issuers are those with market capitalisation meeting global index providers’ criteria and sufficient liquidity. “We will look at companies with market caps within the qualifying range and good liquidity, and invite them for discussions,” Jeffrey said.
Additionally, he said the exchange would comply with global index providers’ rules regarding eligible companies. “Of course, we will follow the publicly stated criteria by global index providers for companies eligible for inclusion,” Jeffrey said.
For context, on Wednesday (13 May), MSCI announced the rebalancing of Indonesian stocks, removing five from the MSCI Global Standard Indexes and 13 from the MSCI Small Cap Indexes, effective 29 May 2029. On Saturday (23 May), FTSE Russell announced the removal of four Indonesian stocks from the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (GEIS), effective 22 June 2026.
