Escalating conflict in the Middle East region has prompted Indonesia’s defence establishment to prepare contingency measures to mitigate domestic impacts. Most recently, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto issued a Level 1 alert order to all TNI units in response to global developments in the region.

The commander’s order was issued via official telegram to all ranks. The Level 1 alert is intended to anticipate developments in the domestic situation resulting from the impact of the Middle East conflict.

The TNI stated that this measure was undertaken in accordance with its core functions. The order was contained in TNI Commander Telegram Number TR/283/2026, signed by the TNI Commander’s Operations Assistant, Lieutenant General Bobby Rinal Makmun on 1 March 2026.

Seven directives were issued to all TNI ranks:

  1. The commanders of the TNI’s Main Operations Command (Pangkotamaops) were ordered to place personnel and major weapons systems on alert. Additionally, they were instructed to conduct patrols at strategic vital facilities and economic centres, including airports, seaports and inland waterways, railway stations, bus terminals, and critical infrastructure such as the state electricity company.

  2. The National Air Defence Command (Kohanudnas) was ordered to conduct early warning detection and continuous 24-hour air surveillance.

  3. The TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) was instructed to direct defence attachés at Indonesian diplomatic missions in conflict-affected countries to record and map the status of Indonesian citizens. Additionally, Bais was tasked with preparing evacuation plans if necessary, in coordination with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian diplomatic representatives in those countries.

  4. Kodam Jaya was ordered to increase patrols at various strategic vital facilities and embassies in Jakarta to maintain secure conditions.

  5. TNI intelligence units were instructed to conduct early warning detection and prevention against potential security threats at vital facilities and embassy areas.

  6. All TNI central executive bodies (Balakpus) were ordered to implement alert readiness in their respective units.

  7. All developments in the field situation must be immediately reported to the TNI Commander.

The TNI Headquarters issued an explanation regarding the issuance of the commander’s telegram. The TNI stated that this action was taken in accordance with its core function to protect the Indonesian nation.

“I must convey that in accordance with the mandate of the TNI Law, one of the TNI’s core functions is to protect the entire nation and all of Indonesian territory from threats and disturbances to national and state integrity,” explained TNI Public Information Chief Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah to journalists on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

Aulia assured that the TNI would perform its duties professionally and remain ready. He stated that the TNI is prepared to anticipate the impacts resulting from the United States-Israel-Iran conflict.

“The TNI performs its duties professionally and responsively, which is realised through continuously maintaining its capabilities and strength to remain operationally ready, and to stand alert in anticipating developments in the international, regional and national strategic environments,” he said.

“Accordingly, the TNI must maintain a high operational alert level, one aspect of which is conducting regular readiness verification briefings,” he added.
