Behind MAMI's Acquisition of Schroder, a Strategy to Dominate the Investment Market
PT Manulife Aset Manajemen Indonesia (MAMI) has completed the acquisition of PT Schroder Investment Management Indonesia (Schroders Indonesia) on 31 March 2026. This is claimed to further strengthen MAMI’s position as the investment manager of choice for investors. “The intention behind this acquisition is not merely a transaction to increase the scale of our business, but rather to open a new chapter in our journey to deliver broader impact, including enhancing our capabilities in providing high-quality investment solutions,” said Afifa, President Director and Chief Executive of MAMI, on Monday, 13 April 2026. As of the end of 2025, MAMI had total assets under management of Rp124.3 trillion, making it the investment management company in Indonesia with a market share of 11.9% among approximately 90 investment managers operating in Indonesia. MAMI is also the largest mutual fund manager in Indonesia, with mutual fund assets under management reaching Rp63 trillion as of December 2025, holding a market share of 9.3%. Currently, MAMI manages 37 mutual funds and 72 Investment Management Contracts (KPD) marketed through three distribution channels: Institutional Sales, Partnership Distribution, and Direct Retail Distribution. The number of MAMI investors has grown to 2.6 million in the same period, equivalent to 12.8% of the total 20.2 million mutual fund investors in Indonesia (KSEI data, as of December 2025). Therefore, the investment management company has once again secured several prestigious awards at the ‘Best of the Best Awards 2026’ held by Asia Asset Management in Hong Kong. MAMI retained the title of ‘Best Asset Management Company’ for the 10th time, while ‘Best Bond Manager’ was won for the 3rd time. Another award received was ‘CEO of the Year’, bestowed upon Afifa. A healthy work culture, collaboration, equality, mutual respect, and providing growth opportunities for employees are the ways MAMI builds a strong internal foundation. Meanwhile, the external foundation is built on a commitment to be a trusted investment partner for every Indonesian investor by continuously expanding distribution networks, contributing innovation to the advancement of the investment management industry in Indonesia, enhancing capabilities, and providing education.
