Beggars bad for tourism
Beggars bad for tourism
From Kompas
A Dutch friend of mine came to Indonesia on holiday several months go and visited several cities like Jakarta, Denpasar, Yogyakarta and Bandung.
While admiring the beauty of Indonesia and its culture, she also wondered why there were so many beggars around, particularly in Bandung, where you come across beggars almost everywhere.
I was really embarrassed when she asked me why there was such a large number of beggars and why the government did nothing about them.
I'm afraid the presence of beggars in places frequently visited by foreign tourists will cause discomfort to them, and will eventually lead to dampened interest in visiting Indonesia.
