Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto, addressing American business leaders on Wednesday (8/2), affirmed Indonesia's position as an attractive and noteworthy investment destination for global enterprises.

"We are very open to investment. We need investment and we want more investment. We are confident that we are competitive and attractive," the President said at the Business Summit held at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC.

Speaking before the group of US business leaders, President Prabowo said Indonesia possesses natural resource wealth that is not only abundant but also strategically significant.

However, according to the President, Indonesia's investment appeal does not end there. The Head of State noted that Indonesia is currently driving accelerated industrialisation, opening up new investment opportunities across various sectors.

In terms of natural resources, President Prabowo said Indonesia holds reserves of critical minerals such as nickel, copper and bauxite, which are essential raw materials for future technologies.

"I believe we have strength in critical minerals. I have also received reports that Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest rare earth reserves in the world," he said.

Meanwhile, on the industrialisation front, President Prabowo said Indonesia is now focused on downstream processing of natural resources.

As an example, the President noted that the Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara would initiate 18 downstream processing projects this year, including a waste-to-energy project worth Rp50.4 trillion, equivalent to US$3 billion.

"We continue to advance in industrial downstream processing, where Danantara serves as the primary driving force. We are moving very quickly in these sectors," he said.

Based on this potential, President Prabowo expressed his hope that US companies would view Indonesia not only as an attractive investment destination but also as a primary production base.

The President also emphasised the importance of seeing Indonesia as a strategic partner in Southeast Asia, given the nation's substantial economic scale.

Indonesia remains committed to maintaining its investment climate through regulatory certainty, law enforcement and good governance.

According to the Head of State, these factors are key to attracting foreign investment interest.

"For business leaders, certainty is the most important thing. No one wants to invest in a situation or atmosphere filled with uncertainty, instability, or even chaos," he said.
