The alleged extortion and gratification case involving former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, has revealed significant details. One month before the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) uncovered the case, Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto, had issued a severe warning to his entire department regarding legal violations, specifically corruption and the abuse of authority.

This warning was delivered by Agus Andrianto during an analysis and evaluation meeting of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services held on 5 May 2026. In his directive, Agus asserted that there would be no tolerance for officials who persist in committing legal violations within the ministry he leads.

These statements have returned to the spotlight after the KPK named Silmy Karim and seven others as suspects in an alleged extortion case related to the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals.

Agus Andrianto Vows Criminal Prosecution for Offenders

In a video uploaded via his official Instagram account on 7 May 2026, Agus Andrianto openly reminded all ranks to maintain the institution’s integrity and to avoid actions that harm the state or the public. He further emphasised that he would not hesitate to bring subordinates to legal proceedings if proven to have committed violations.

“I remind you, this is your institution. Who else is going to protect it? And I say, I will not hesitate to prosecute colleagues who are still daring enough to do such things,” stated Agus Andrianto.

This statement stands as one of the most forceful messages delivered by Agus since assuming office as the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services.

Urging Civil Servants to Cease Law Violations

On the same occasion, Agus also expressed appreciation to those within the ranks who have worked to improve the quality of public services and implement ministry programmes in line with national development goals. However, he simultaneously warned that some employees have yet to change and continue to engage in behaviours that contradict the ministry’s established values.

Agus urged all civil servants (ASN) within the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services to immediately abandon illegal practices before facing law enforcement authorities.

“To those friends who have been striving to do good, I say thank you. To those who are still unaware, wake up, wake up from your slumber! Do not be shocked when you wake up to find yourself in prison,” Agus Andrianto warned.
