House Speaker Puan Maharani has stated that the parliament will focus on deliberating 14 bills during the first reading stage in the remainder of the 2026 session. She confirmed that the Asset Forfeiture Bill is a priority. ‘In addition, the DPR RI will also continue the drafting of 43 bills currently in preparation, including the Asset Forfeiture Bill,’ Puan said during a parliamentary session for the submission of the 2027 State Budget Bill and Financial Note. Puan noted that the asset forfeiture bill is still at the stage of receiving meaningful public input. Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas previously confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto had directed that the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill be expedited. Supratman believes the House will soon make the bill a DPR initiative. ‘For the Asset Forfeiture Bill, as you can see, Commission III is just starting its sitting period today. It will be opened by the Deputy Speaker. Commission III is currently conducting public consultations, hearing input from all stakeholders, and we are waiting,’ Supratman said after attending the Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta. ‘The President’s instruction to the Law Minister is clear: to expedite it,’ he added. Supratman expressed confidence that the DPR will soon propose the Asset Forfeiture Bill as an initiative. The government, he said, is ready to discuss the bill with the DPR. ‘But because this is a DPR initiative bill, we are waiting. I am sure the DPR will soon propose the initiative, and we are ready to discuss it together,’ he stated. Supratman said the government previously had a draft of the Asset Forfeiture Bill, but based on political agreement, the bill is now a DPR initiative.
