Before Prabowo, Cooperatives Minister Vows to Restore Cooperatives as Pillar of the Economy
Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono has pledged to restore cooperatives as a pillar of the national economy. This is deemed in line with the aspirations of cooperative pioneers and the grand vision of President Prabowo Subianto.
This statement was made by Ferry at the peak event of National Cooperatives Day at Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, on Sunday (12/7/2026). The event was also attended by President Prabowo Subianto and the Chairman of the Indonesian Cooperative Council (Dekopin), Bambang Haryadi.
“We at the ministry are fully aware that we are the ideological apparatus of the President. Together with the cooperative movement and the Indonesian Cooperative Council, we will certainly be at the forefront of implementing and continuing the great ideals of cooperative pioneers, and specifically implementing the grand vision of President Prabowo Subianto so that cooperatives can once again become the pillar of the national economy,” Ferry said.
Cooperatives are recognised as the ‘sokoguru’ (pillar) of the national economy under Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution. Cooperatives have also been incorporated into the Asta Cita vision programme of the Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration.
On the same occasion, Ferry also announced that a new Cooperatives Law would be enacted this year. He noted that the current regulations being used are still outdated.
“Thus, this new law is expected to become a strong legal umbrella for the cooperative movement in Indonesia,” he continued.
