Before Israeli Attack, Iran Accelerates Oil Exports Abroad
Iranian authorities have accelerated exports of crude oil to foreign markets in recent days, ahead of Israeli and American military strikes on Iran on Saturday, 28 February 2026. Satellite imagery and shipping data show a spike in tanker activity at Iranian terminals throughout the week.
According to Oilprice.com, Tehran is reportedly seeking to maximise revenue and empty storage facilities before potential infrastructure damage or the imposition of stricter maritime blockades.
This marks the second time the United States has attacked Iranian territory within less than a year. In June 2025, US fighter aircraft bombed three nuclear locations, including the Fordo enrichment facility. Although that conflict ended with a brief ceasefire, the current operation is considered far more extensive.
Israel has closed its airspace and suspended all civilian flights. The Home Front Command has ordered citizens to cease non-essential activities, banned public gatherings, and closed schools.
In Iran, strikes occurred on Saturday morning, marking the beginning of the working week. Reports indicated panic as millions of citizens were in offices and classrooms when the attacks commenced.
