Before His Death, Try Sutrisno Frequently Reported Important Matters to President Prabowo
Jakarta, Kompas.com - The late sixth Vice President of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, frequently reported important state matters to President Prabowo Subianto before his death on Monday, 2 March 2026.
This was stated by Wiranto, former Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI), after paying respects at Try Sutrisno’s residence on Jalan Purwakarta, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
“I was always in communication with him. On matters concerning state affairs, he always provided me with advice,” said Wiranto.
“I currently serve as the President’s Special Advisor on Politics and Security. He always contacts me. Regarding matters of principle—issues he considers necessary to report to the President,” he explained.
Wiranto recalled that Try Sutrisno was a figure who consistently prioritised the public interest over his personal concerns.
“His simplicity, adherence to the constitution, his struggle always defending truth and guided by his beliefs,” said Wiranto.
“As Vice President at that time, he always prioritised the interests of the people over personal and factional interests,” he added.
According to Wiranto, Try Sutrisno was also a figure who always considered the best course of action for society when carrying out his state duties.
“And I believe that is an attitude we should indeed emulate. An attitude that should be followed by both military officers and colleagues currently holding state positions,” said the President’s Special Advisor on Politics and Security.
Try Sutrisno’s body is now at a funeral home in the Menteng area, Jakarta, for viewing.
The family stated that Try Sutrisno did not have any specific medical history that caused his death on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Try’s son, Taufik Dwi Cahyono, said that his father’s health declined due to his advanced age of 90 years.
“My father passed due to his age—everything declines at that age. There was nothing specifically wrong with him, it was simply due to his age—his respiratory capacity declined, and so on,” said Taufik at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Hospital on Monday, according to Kompas TV.
Taufik said that before his death, Try had been receiving treatment at RSPAD since 16 February 2026 after losing his appetite.
Taufik said that RSPAD medical staff and presidential officials had provided the best possible treatment to Try.
