Before Her Death, Dr Icha Had Expressed a Desire to End Her Life
The family of Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, or Dr Icha, has revealed that before being found dead, the doctor had undergone examinations at the Dewantara Mental Healthcare Main Clinic. According to the family, the results indicated that Dr Icha was experiencing severe depression without psychotic symptoms following a psychological shock.
“She was experiencing severe depression and, being an introvert, she only communicated with me, Bapak Kecil, and Mr Victor. She communicated, ‘I am stressed, I want to go home to Kefa, I have met these three people again, I am traumatised’,” said Dr Icha’s uncle, Fabianus Banase, as quoted from a YouTube broadcast on Sunday, 28 June 2026.
Furthermore, Fabianus mentioned that the family had scheduled a follow-up examination at the Bhayangkara Kupang Hospital for Friday, 26 June 2026. However, before that examination could take place, Dr Icha was found dead.
“We had planned to take her for another check-up at Bhayangkara Hospital. But God had other plans; our child passed away first,” he said.
Fabian also mentioned that his niece had expressed a desire to end her life following the incident.
“She even said, ‘Let me just die so that others do not become victims like my friends,’” he added.
As information, Dr Icha’s death is suspected to have been triggered by acts of intimidation while she was on duty at the Emergency Department (IGD) of Leona Kefamenuno Hospital, North Central Timor (TTU) Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The incident began on Saturday, 13 June 2026, when a child patient who was a victim of a snake bite was referred to the Leona Kefamenanu Hospital Emergency Department. At that time, Dr Icha was the doctor on duty. According to the family, the deceased had handled the patient in accordance with the hospital’s standard operating procedures (SOP) and had consulted with a paediatric specialist.
Based on the medical examination results, it was stated that the patient was not yet recommended to receive a certain vaccine. Additionally, the vaccine requested by the patient’s family was unavailable at the hospital.
The family noted that the situation became tense when the patient’s family refused to accept the medical explanation.
According to Dr Icha’s uncle, Victor Manbait, one of the members of the patient’s family spoke in a raised tone and claimed to be a member of the TTU Regional House of Representatives (DPRD).
