Jakarta — AFN (26), a minibus driver who was killed by RM (25) in Cilincing, North Jakarta, is suspected of striking the perpetrator’s father before being fatally stabbed on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

According to Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, the assault incident provoked RM’s anger, eventually leading him to confront the victim.

“The perpetrator admitted feeling hurt after the victim struck his father,” Budi told Kompas.com on Monday, 16 March 2026.

RM subsequently drew a machete he was carrying and slashed the victim until he fell. The victim was transported to hospital but could not be saved.

Following the incident, the perpetrator fled and hid inside a container truck in the warehouse area of Cakung, East Jakarta, planning to escape with his brother the following day. However, RM’s whereabouts were discovered by personnel from the Traffic Crime Control Unit of Metro Jaya Police Headquarters.

On Friday, 13 March 2026 at 07:30 WIB, police arrested RM. When asked to show the location where he had disposed of the weapon in a swamp, the perpetrator again resisted and attempted to flee. Police were forced to shoot RM in the leg to stop his escape attempt.

“Officers were compelled to take proportionate firm action,” said Budi.

RM is now detained at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters’ detention facility. He has been charged under Article 458 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code concerning murder, and Article 466 paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code concerning assault resulting in death. The perpetrator faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

The death of AFN was posted by the Instagram account @wargajakarta.id, with the narrative indicating that the victim died from being slashed by RM. In the incident, AFN was seen wearing a black shirt and was being carried by a resident. Shortly thereafter, AFN collapsed onto the road and was immediately surrounded by other residents. AFN was then evacuated to the roadside by residents as the road was about to be traversed by vehicles.

According to Cilincing Police Station Chief AKBP Bobi Subasri, the incident was triggered by a quarrel between the victim and perpetrator. “Essentially the victim and perpetrator had an argument, then the perpetrator immediately slashed the victim,” Bobi told Kompas.com on Friday, 13 March 2026.
