Agam Regency (ANTARA) - A seasonal beef trader has earned turnover of up to Rp30 million from buying and selling activities in Nagari Sungai Batang, Tanjung Raya District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, an area affected by flash floods and landslides.

"The turnover from beef sales ahead of the fasting month has reached Rp30 million," said Taufik, a seasonal beef trader in Nagari Sungai Batang, Agam Regency, on Sunday.

Taufik said he deliberately travelled from the city of Bukittinggi to Nagari Sungai Batang, which was hit by hydrometeorological disasters, to meet the needs of local residents ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

He sells fresh beef at Rp150,000 per kilogramme. The meat is generally consumed by residents for sahur (pre-dawn meals) and breaking of the fast during the first days of Ramadan.

In Nagari Sungai Batang specifically, Taufik has been engaged in the seasonal beef trade for the past 10 years. He typically sells only twice a year — three days before the start of fasting and three days before Eid al-Fitr.

"On ordinary days, I also sell beef but in the Bukittinggi area," he said.

Taufik noted that the accelerated recovery of disaster-affected locations, particularly road access from Bukittinggi to Agam Regency via Kelok 44, has greatly assisted both traders and local residents. The disaster that occurred at the end of 2025 severed mobility between Bukittinggi and Agam Regency via Kelok 44 in both directions. Now, although road access has not fully recovered, residents are able to traverse the route.

Meanwhile, Asri, a buyer from Jorong (hamlet) Bancah, Nagari Sungai Batang, said she was greatly helped by the presence of beef traders from Bukittinggi.

"If there were no beef traders selling in Nagari Sungai Batang, we would have to shop in Lubuk Basung or Bukittinggi, which is quite far and adds to our transport costs," she said.
