Becoming a Suspect in Defaming a Thief, Owner of Bibi Kelinci: Where Is Your Conscience?
In Jakarta, Nabilah O’Brien, the proprietor of Bibi Kelinci, tearfully recounted her distress after being named a suspect in a defamation case. The charges stem from a pair, ZK and ERS, who allegedly took 14 meals from her restaurant without paying. The restaurant’s losses are estimated at Rp530,150.
“To Mr Z and Mrs E, I want to ask you directly: where is your conscience? You came to my place, took 14 of our food and drink products without paying a single rupiah,” Nabilah told reporters on Friday (6 March 2026).
“I am just a citizen, a small business owner who is fighting to support many people behind me. Rp1 billion is completely unreasonable compared with the food you took,” she said.
Nabilah said that for the past five months she has struggled to concentrate at work because she is being counter-sued for defamation by ZK and ERS. CCTV footage shows the incident did occur, and the footage does not lie.
“The CCTV footage exists, and CCTV never lies. I may not know or understand the law,” she said.
She also felt sad because her staff were shouted at and insulted by the perpetrators, while she herself had never treated them badly. “One of the individuals entered the kitchen, where entry is forbidden, cursed my head chef, and threatened to tear down my restaurant,” Nabilah wrote on Instagram @nabobrien.
Following the incident, the two perpetrators struck the head of the kitchen and a pregnant employee, then left the restaurant taking 11 portions of food and three drinks without paying.
The losses are estimated at Rp530,150 based on the restaurant’s receipts.
