Becoming a Qurban Broker: What are the Regulations in Islamic Jurisprudence?
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The phenomenon of becoming a broker or intermediary in the sale of sacrificial animals is becoming increasingly common in the lead-up to Eid al-Adha 2026. Many parties are helping to find sacrificial animals for committees and prospective sacrificers in exchange for a certain fee. However, what is the legal ruling and regulations in Islamic jurisprudence? A member of the National Sharia Council (DSN) of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Ustadz Oni Sahroni, explained that becoming a Qurban broker is permissible as long as it meets the principles of halal, legality, and transparency. According to Ustadz, the broker may only act as an intermediary in transactions involving parties that meet halal and legal criteria. In addition, the information provided by the broker must also be accurate and reflect reality, and must not be fictitious or misleading. “The information provided by the broker must be accurate (in accordance with reality), not fictitious,” said Ustadz Oni, quoted from his work entitled “Contemporary Jurisprudence Related to Qurban”, Friday (15/5/2026). Ustadz Oni also highlighted the issue of broker fees or commissions. According to him, the amount of the fee must be clearly agreed upon to avoid disputes in the future.
