Becoming a Champion Contingent at the Banten MTQ

The 23rd Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) at the Provincial Level in Banten, held at the Banten Provincial Government Centre (KP3B) in Serang City from 6 to 10 July 2026, is a compelling event to observe. The thought arises that MTQ is not merely a competition to find the best in reading, memorising, understanding, or writing the Qur’an. More than that, MTQ is a vehicle for Islamic outreach, the development of a Qur’anic generation, and a momentum to foster the community’s love for the Holy Book. For Banten Province, MTQ holds a deeper meaning. Banten is known as the ‘Land of a Million Santri’, an identity born from a long history of Islamic propagation, the pesantren tradition, and the struggle of ulama in building civilisation. This identity is not just a slogan, but a reflection of the community’s character that makes Islamic values the foundation of life. This historical footprint cannot be separated from the struggle of Syekh Maulana Hasanuddin, the founder of the Banten Sultanate, who laid the groundwork for community development by making Islamic teachings the spirit of life. Under his leadership, Banten flourished not only as a trade centre but also as a centre for da’wah, education, and Islamic culture. Islamic values lived on in the language, traditions, social conduct, and even the governance of his era. Therefore, the Banten MTQ is not merely an annual agenda that produces champions. MTQ is a momentum to re-weave the spirit of Syekh Maulana Hasanuddin’s struggle, making the Qur’an a source of inspiration in building Banten’s civilisation. Every stride of development, every government policy, every activity in education, economy, culture, and social life, should be grounded in the noble values of the Qur’an. The Qur’an is not just a book to be beautifully recited and competed over, but a constellation of values that guides humanity towards justice, honesty, trustworthiness, hard work, compassion, unity, and progress. These are the values that must not lose their footing in governance, regional development, public service, or community life. Progress must not be separated from morality, and development must not lose its direction from divine guidance. Being part of the MTQ contingent is a noble mandate. Each participant carries not only their personal name but also the name of their region, institution, family, and the community that places great hope in them. Therefore, becoming a champion contingent is not just about obtaining medals or trophies, but about displaying Qur’anic morals, a fighting spirit, and the best dedication. The effort towards achievement must begin long before the competition takes place. Disciplined training, directed coaching, continuous evaluation, and guidance from trainers form the main foundation in building the quality of the participants.
