Becomes a suspect: Green SM taxi driver negligent as car stalls on a level crossing
Bekasi, Kompas.com — Green SM taxi driver Richard Rudolf Passelima has been named a suspect in the KRL accident at a level crossing on Jalan Ampera, Duren Jaya, East Bekasi District, Bekasi City. Kasat Lantas Polres Metro Bekasi Kota, Senior Commissioner Gefri Agitia, said the driver acted negligently when crossing the railway. ‘His negligence is because the car stalled (mati) on the tracks,’ he said in a statement on Thursday (21 May 2026). Police have also conducted investigations and crime scene investigations. According to Gefri, Richard faces Article 310 paragraph (1) of Law No. 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ) with a penalty of six months’ imprisonment or a Rp 1 million fine. Although named a suspect, police did not detain RRP because the accident did not involve fatalities or injuries in the initial incident between the taxi and the KRL. ‘Investigators did not detain the taxi driver because there were no fatalities, minor injuries, serious injuries, or death,’ Gefri said. He added that the case falls under the category of light offences (tipiring) and will later be handled via a single-judge court. ‘This is a category of sumir or tipiring. The judge’s decision will be based on the judge’s assessment of the incident,’ he said. This refers to Article 124 of Law No. 23 of 2007 on Railways, which states that road users must yield to trains at level crossings. ‘For the train driver, no criminal sanctions can be imposed,’ Gefri said. Gefri explained that the accident began when the Green SM taxi with registration B-2864-SBX was travelling from Duren Jaya towards Jalan Juanda. While crossing the railway crossing, the vehicle suddenly stopped abruptly or stalled on the tracks.
